Fall River's Rex-Cut surviving in tough economic climate

FALL RIVER—A year ago, Rex-Cut Products Inc. in the Fall River Industrial Park, celebrating 80 years manufacturing cotton abrasive materials, was actually having its best year ever, company President Claude Gelinas said. As the economy and manufacturing across the country tanked, however, the company that lured him to leave his junior high math teaching job in the city 30 years earlier felt more than a pinch, Gelinas said. But Gelinas, who actually had a part-time job at Rex-Cut in high school, and Director of Human Resources Maria A. Prado, with 15 years at the Airport Road business, explained last week how they ve creatively worked to stop the bleeding and stay profitable.

A new-updated 2005 catalog was introduced late February this year
Some of the changes included a revised cover, additional sizes in the Alpha Green Cut-Off wheel line, and part numbers for our accessories. Copies are still available by request.Our new website was introduced early this year
We plan to make it more a more informative resource to our customers each year. Also, we introduced an online webstore in June. The webstore is being provided to aid our international customers as well as those in remote areas of the U.S. requiring quick delivery on small orders of certain popular items.2004
